The last factory designated 911 : 1984 to 1989

Coupe Chassis code 10 or 12, the Coupe was from the original 901 design from the pen of Alexander 'Butzi' Porsche

Targa Chassis code 14 or 16, introduced in 1965, the Targa saw the 911 with a removable lateral roof panel

Cabriolet Chassis code 15 or 17, introduced in 1981, the Cabriolet saw the 911 with a soft-top roof neatly retaining the Coupe lines

In 1964 the 'O' Series goes into production with type number changed from 901 to 911 through to 1989 when the 'K' Series brought the 26 year 911 chassis designation to an end.

WPO ZZZ 91 KS 1 brings it to an end ... long live the 911

M491 Turbo-Look

M491 Option Code First used in 1984 for the Wide-Body Carrera Coupe.

Body 123mm wider, standard body with wide front and rear wings, shaped bumpers, wrapround chin spoiler and Turbo rear wing

Brakes Derived from the 917 racing program, cross drilled front and rear discs with 4-piston aluminium callipers

Suspension To match 911 Turbo, larger front torsion bars and anti-roll bar, larger rear torsion bars and semi-trailing arms

An option to the standard Carrera, the 491 code was probably the most comprehensive and certainly the most expensive, Porsche keen to offer the wider and more agressive looking Turbo aesthetics. Slightly slower and 70kgs heavier than a standard Carrera, but more drivable than a Turbo

M637 Club Sport

M637 Option Code A lightened and simplified variant of the Carrera Coupe.

Weight Fitted with G50 Gearbox only, 'stripped-out' Club Sports were between 50 and 75 kgs lighter than a standard Coupe Sport

Engine Blueprinted, used engine components carefully selected and matched from standard parts to improve power output

Looks No front fog lamps, no rear wiper, CarreraCS flank or CSClubSport front wing decals. Typically white with red detailing

The Club Sport was the essence of a purely functional sports coupe, in keeping with the spirit of the 1973 Carrera 2.7RS. Individual Chassis No's. for 1987 and 1988 - special order only for 1989

M503 911 Speedster

M503 Option Code Capturing the spirit of the 356 Speedsters.

Aerodynamics Designed as an open roadster, not fitted with front chin spolier or rear wing, in 'clean' non-sport guise, low and wind-cheating

Windscreen Steeply raked 'removable' windscreen, designed to be raced with an aero-screen, and without door quarterlights

Speedster Humps Moulded polyurethane 'humps' positioned directly behind the front seats, provided a housing for the cabriolet roof

Drawn from Porsche 'Speedster' design, with lowered windscreen and cabriolet roof, in both wide and narrow body versions. Individual Chassis No's. - available only for 1989

What the readers have said ...

"Excellent book, very readable and full of good detail"

"A very informative, thorough record of the 3.2 Carrera. Detail of all the changes through the years and very useful information on tried and tested upgrades . Very good quality production and a reference book for all times"

"Corlett, 3.2 Carrera Register Secretary of Porsche Club GB, deals with the last 'real' 911 in straightforward (American) English in this series hardback, after a revealing foreword from former Porsche boss Peter Schutz. This is essentially an 'evolution and anatomy of', with added bonuses in detail of how Fuchs forges wheels, sections on enjoying your Carrera on the track, modded cars, upgrades and a comparison with the Ferrari 328 on the Isle of Man where Corlett lives, plus tech specs and chassis numbers at the back. Best bit is an exhilarating ride by 3.2 over the mountain section of the TT Course, alongside a man who knows it well"
